Book vs Movie: The Crow

So this is my first time doing one of these comparison things so bear with me as I try to get the writing formula down.

THIS WILL ALSO BE RIPE WITH SPOILERS.  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Today I am comparing the book and the movie versions of The Crow.

Batman Returns Review

WARNING!  MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Don’t like?  Watch the movie first.

Another movie I’m doing out of order in the series but there’s a reason for it this time.  Well, somewhat of a reason anyway.

Y’see, for a while there, I didn’t have my own computer.  So, because of that, I a) wasn’t doing any reviews and b) wasn’t able to watch what I wanted, when I wanted to.  Christmas was coming and, while I like the holiday, I don’t fangirl over it and I definitely don’t like the typical Christmas specials and movies.  Usually, my go-to movie for Christmas is Die Hard (fuck you, it’s a fantastic Christmas movie.)  But again, no computer of my own.  Now, there are backup movies I’ll watch.  Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas

And Batman Returns.  I happen to have that one on DVD (I got the 4 movie special pack with both Tim Burton Batman movies and the two terrible Joel Schumaker errors.)  So I sat my dad down to watch it with me.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader Review + Writer’s Block

WARNING!  MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Don’t like?  Watch the movie first.

I don’t usually like to review movies in a series like this, especially ones that are based on a book.  My prefered way to do it is to read the books, in order, then watch the movies that correspond with each book right after and do a comparison.  Now, I’ve read the whole Narnia series.  I’ve read them several times over and I own a whole box set.  Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the fifth book and one of my absolute faves of the series.  So I was excited when 1) they decided to do the whole Narnia series as movies, rather than just the most popular one and 2) that they actually made and released this movie.  I didn’t get to see it in theaters but when it showed up on my On Demand, I definitely took the first chance I got to see it.

Mermaids Review

WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Don’t like?  Watch the movie first.

So, even when movie plots aren’t that good, I may watch a movie for the actors in it.  See, I’ve got one of those fancy DVR things with the digital cable, and my family rightly subscribes to several movie channels (we’ve been loyal to HBO for years.)  So when you look up a movie, it gives you a really short and crappy description along with the actors that are in it.

Mermaids has Cher, Bob Hoskins (from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Super Mario Bros.) Winona Ryder and is also Christina Ricci’s first film ever.  I was like “damn, all of them appeal to me (I’ll watch almost anything Winona is in) so yeah why the hell not?”

Review and Bonus WB

The Adjustment Bureau

Warning!  May Contain Spoilers
Don’t like?  Watch the movie first.

I had been interested in this movie awhile back now, but didn’t get to see it until it came out on HBO and my dad decided he wanted to see it.  I was under the impression it was more “thriller” and less “romantic” but it was a watchable movie in any case.

A Quick WB Catch-Up

So I totally know I need to catch up on my WB questions (I have like 175 waiting for me :-/) so I decided that I was gonna do like 5 of them right in a row and maybe have a little something to post. I think I’ll probably do another review today too. 🙂 It’s spring break for my college so I have three full days of no work and no school to get some of this done.

A Couple of Quick WBs

So I’ve done a couple of quick WB questions in the past few months and thought I’d at least post them up here for something to do.

The first one is one I did today:

How are you celebrating Leap Day?

I happen to be going out with my family for lunch?  You see, today is not only the last day of Subway’s FebruANY event (where any regular footlong sub is just $5) but they’re giving out a free cookie because it’s leap day.  So we’re going to Subway.  Even better is that I work at a Subway and the one down the street from me is owned by the same man that owns mine.  So I get to go and see a bunch of my friends.  🙂

Now, back in December I answered a B.Y.O.B. WB question (they were doing this series of questions called Bring Your Own Beliefs.)  Each of these questions had the opportunity to win something too.  I only answered one, because it was the only one I was interested in.

What is your must-see holiday movie?

Now, there are a lot of movies I like watching during the holiday.  I love the Blackadder Christmas SpecialA Charlie Brown Christmas, Garfield Christmas Special and the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  I also like less obvious Christmas movies like Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Edward Scissorhands.  But there is one movie that I absolutely love to watch on Christmas that no one ever really thinks of:

Die Hard.

Die Hard is one of the best Christmas movies ever, in my opinion.  I love watching Bruce Willas kick Alan Rickman’s butt 🙂

And remember how I said you could randomly win a prize?  Well, I got picked to win the $50 Amazon gift card from that question!  I’m still not sure what to spend it on.  I know I’m getting one book, the new Jay Asher one, but I don’t know what else I want.
